What is Research Data?

Understanding what research data is, is an important step in Research Data Management. Research data is data created or collected in the scientific community during a research project. Research data is used to validate research findings. Although commonly found in digital formats, research data can also be non-digital. Examples of research data include documents, spreadsheets, questionnaires, audiotapes and etc. Research data may be "raw"; unprocessed data which is still in its initial state in which it was collected or created, "processed";  data which is organised or analysed; data which has been studied and checked for validity.

What is Research Data Management?

Research Data Management is the process of making informed decisions about how research data will be managed. These decisions include the collection, organisation, storage, preservation and sharing of research data. This process is concerned with how research data will be managed during a research project and as well as after the research project is completed.
